What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils topically and aromatically for overall wellness. The essential oils we use are highly concentrated, and produced from botanicals such as flowers, trees, roots, and seeds. According to the Mayo Clinic, the scents from these potent, plant-based products “target smell receptors in the nose, triggering effects that pass through the nervous system to the brain.” Those effects can help your body, mind, and emotional well-being in many ways.

How does Aromatherapy work?

In essence aromatherapy is used as a natural, non-invasive modality designed to affect the whole being of a person, we do not treat diseases but rather assist the body’s innate ability to regulate, rebalance, heal and recover it’s own self.

How do you use essential oils for aromatherapy

When people hear the word aromatherapy, they usually think of using essential oils aromatically—and for good reason! Diffusers disperse tiny oil droplets into the air, allowing you to easily surround yourself with the soothing scent ofLavender or the stimulating scent of Citrus. However, you can also use oils topically in an aromatherapy practice! Apply a drop of Rosemary essential oil on your pressure points and enjoy its energizing aroma. Or add a few drops of Ylang Ylang to your massage oil to amp up the spa-like vibes. No matter your method, you’re harnessing the power of aromatherapy with essential oils!

What are the benefits of aromatherapy?

The benefits of aromatherapy are as varied as the constituents in essential oils. You can use aromatherapy for a more luxurious bathtime, a more relaxing bedtime, or a more energized work environment. Here are 10 different ways you can use essential oils for aromatherapy. The list includes over 60 different oils and oil blends— try them all and you’ll be an aromatherapy expert!

What are the Aromatherapy benefits and protocols that we offer?

Aromatherapy Massage

The addition of essential oils with massage is truly transporting; you leave feeling calm, grounded, centered, euphoric and peaceful.

Raindrop Technique Massage

A treatment where 9 essential oils are dropped like raindrops down the length of the spine, with a deep, soothing massage application. The oils chosen boost the immune system, clear sinus and respiratory congestion, digest excess toxicity and balance every system of the body. Recommended for addressing curvature of the spine (scoliosis), fatigue, chronic conditions, Lymes disease, autoimmune deficiencies, inflammation and pain. We call it a full body tune-up. You receive either a deep, full body massage or a transporting hands on Reiki service with this Raindrop Technique.

Emotional Release Raindrop

The essential oil blends specific for emotional release are used with the Raindrop Technique style, facilitating a very gentle and safe experience. Essential oils are a powerful tool for releasing past anger, resentment, fear, trauma, etc., making space for the new. Emotional release is the first step towards healing chronic illness. This particular Raindrop technique is only delivered by therapists with experience in Intuitive Energy Healing.

What are the Aromatherapy benefits and protocols that we offer?

Neuro-Auricular Technique (NAT)

Focused Stress Buster for the Brain and all its functions! Essential Oil application on the LC (Locus Ceruleus- a nucleus in the brain stem involved with physiological responses to stress and panic.) and the Vagus nerve at the base of the brain. The Vagus nerve impacts all digestive organs, lungs, heart, eyes, ears, nose and the endocrine system. This protocol connects all the synapses of the brain and upper spinal cord, creating an environment that facilitates optimal health, healing and bodily function.

The benefits of NAT

Dramatic stress reduction and emotional release. Helps the nerve pathways re-establish harmonious flow throughout the body. Addresses neurological conditions, stimulates the immune system, dramatically reduces the inflammatory response. NAT may have a positive impact on clinical depression, panic disorder, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and sleep disorders. May interrupt most stress induced fear circuitry disorders, especially important for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Parkinson’s NAT

The Parkinson’s NAT uses 7 essential oils specific for balancing and reprogramming the DNA. The reason this technique could work for Parkinson’s is because Parkinson’s is due to failure of the locus ceruleus to properly process neural messages and of the vagal ganglion to properly transmit its electrical signals. Since NAT is designed to restore normal vagus nerve function as well as that of the locus ceruleus, the symptoms of Parkinson’s could reasonably be expected to be reduced or disappear altogether when these two neural organs regain their healthy normal function.

Answers

to some of your questions

What exactly is an essential oil?

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts obtained by careful steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. The resulting oils have a distinctive molecular profile that gives them specific aromas and properties. Essential oils have been used by people for thousands of years for everything from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use. We believe that essential oils are the best of nature distilled, and they have the power to elevate, motivate, and inspire.

How can I use them?

There are countless ways to use essential oils: in the kitchen or at the gym, diffusing them or applying them to the skin—the possibilities are endless. The most important thing to remember is that each oil is different. Always check individual labels to find out if an oil needs to be diluted before using it on the skin

Why do they need to be diluted?

Pure essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they are extracted. Some oils are considered gentle and generally safe to apply directly to the skin, like Lavender and Copaiba.
Other oils are considered “hot” and should be diluted before they are applied to skin, like Cinnamon Bark and Oregano.

Are essential oils safe for kids?

Each child is different, so it’s always a good idea to test a small amount to make sure no irritation occurs before applying to a large area of skin. The same goes when diffusing essential oils around babies. Be sure to test them first! You should also be generous when it comes to dilution and remember to use less than you would for an adult. Some of our favorite essential oils for babies are Grapefruit, Lavender, and German Chamomile.

Okay, so some essential oils are safe for babies, but can you use them during pregnancy?

Just like with babies, essential oils can be a great addition to your routine throughout pregnancy. Staying relaxed and pampering yourself during those 9 months keep you happy while the baby grows, kicks, and wiggles. Start slow with essential oils and diffuse in a large area to see how you tolerate them, then go from there. We always recommend that pregnant women consult with a trained health professional with experience using essential oils.

Aromatherapy for kids

If your goals are total wellness and a more relaxed life, you probably have similar goals for your kids. Little ones can benefit from aromatherapy, but it’s a little different than aromatherapy for grownups. Before you get started, take some time to learn about the proper way to dilute essential oils for children and babies. Diffusing oils is pretty safe, but you’ll want to take some precautions when applying them topically.
